About the Author of the Site
Hi — I’m Élodie Durand, founder and editor of Scubalanzarote Co. I moved to Lanzarote over a decade ago and quickly fell in love with the island’s raw volcanic landscapes, crystal-clear waters and endless playground for ocean and outdoor sports. On this blog I share practical guides, personal stories and tested tips to help you get the most from snorkeling, scuba, windsurfing, hiking and island adventures.
I’m a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and hold additional certifications in nitrox and rescue diving. I also trained with local instructors in freediving and windsurf coaching, so I teach, guide and regularly dive across the Canary Islands. My background in marine biology (BSc) gives me a strong appreciation for marine ecosystems and guides how I approach responsible exploration and conservation-minded advice.
Over the years I’ve led hundreds of guided dives, snorkeling trips and windsurf sessions for all levels — from nervous first-timers to experienced thrill-seekers. I test gear in real conditions and write honest reviews focused on performance, safety and value for money. You’ll find gear recommendations that are practical for island travel and the sometimes rugged conditions of the Atlantic.
On Scubalanzarote Co I mix trip planning essentials (where to go, how to get there, seasonal conditions) with safety and skills articles (buoyancy, tide awareness, emergency basics), plus local stories and route ideas for hikes and coastal windsurf runs. My aim is to help you plan unforgettable ocean escapes while respecting the environment and local culture.
I speak English and French fluently and work regularly with local dive centres, outfitters and conservation groups. I document adventures with underwater and landscape photography — expect clear photos and maps to help you visualise spots before you go. Wherever useful, I include logistics, estimated durations, difficulty levels and packing lists.
Whether you’re planning your first snorkel off Papagayo, training for deeper dives, chasing wind conditions at Famara, or scouting new hiking trails, I’m here to share what works, what to avoid and how to travel safely and sustainably. I love hearing from readers — questions, trip reports and tips are always welcome.
